Oral sedation is a safe and effective method to reduce patient fear and improve their level of comfort when visiting the dentist. Oral sedation administered in the dental office and is one of the most important methods for helping people obtain needed dental care in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
It has been estimated that up to 90 million people in the United States avoid having their dental treatment done due to fear and anxiety. These people fall into many groups:
- Patients with anxiety
- Resistance to "getting numb"
- Strong gag reflexes

Latest Dental Technology
Dr Siegel's office acquired a pulse oximeter, which can automatically take a patient's blood pressure, measure heart rate and determine the patient's oxygen saturation. This machine is used on all sedation patients and provides the ultimate in safety for the patient.
Also, Dr Siegel's practice has an automatic external defibrillator(AED), which is the most effective means for treating a cardiac emergency. These two machines allow Dr Siegel to provide the safest possible treatment for his patients.
Online Resources
The Journal of Dental Research has just published the results of a study showing that treatment of gum disease may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Siegel's Continuing Education
January, 2006-
Dr. Siegel attended a course on implant reconstruction sponsored by the Northern Virginia Dental Society. The course dealt with the newest implant designs and indications for their use.
October, 2005-
Dr. Siegel was re-certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association. This one-day seminar explained the new changes in the life support protocol as recently adopted by the American Heart Association.
